How Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. Was Born

Back in 1984, Ray Castillo was working for a company that cleaned ducts the way you’d clean a rented car: fast, careless, and already thinking about the next job. He remembers one afternoon in particular, a ranch house in a neighborhood where the sycamores dropped seed pods that clogged every vent. The homeowner, a woman in her sixties who’d saved for months, had been quoted one price over the phone and handed a bill for nearly triple once the hoses were in her basement. She paid it. She didn’t argue. She just looked embarrassed, and that look stayed with Ray.

He quit that spring. Started Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. with a used Nikro vacuum unit, a box of business cards, and a single rule: the price we say is the price you pay. No bait, no switch, no discovering “mold” that wasn’t there. He named the company for the oldest air-moving tool there is, the bellows, because he wanted to do this the old craft way. What began with one van and one phone line grew into a network of locations across the country, each held to the same standard Ray set that first year. We’re not a single shop anymore, but every location answers to the same promise.

Ray Castillo’s Personal Connection to the Air Duct Cleaning Trade

Ray didn’t fall into ductwork. He was pulled into it by the physics of air itself, the way a house breathes. His father was a handyman who fixed whatever broke, and Ray grew up crawling into crawlspaces that smelled of damp earth and old limestone. The first time he helped snake a dryer vent clear, he was fourteen. He remembers the heat of the lint, the way it packed like felt, the particular smell of scorched cotton when it had been heating too long. He remembers his father’s voice from the other end of the hose: “That’s a fire waiting. That’s real work we just did.”

That feeling, of preventing something bad before it happened, never left him. Forty-two years later, it’s still what gets him out of bed. Not the invoices, not the schedules. The homeowner who calls because her son’s asthma flares every October, and she doesn’t know why. The restaurant owner whose grease hood hasn’t been touched in five years. The retired couple in Stratford who just want to stop dusting every surface twice a day. Ray will tell you, straight, that if he weren’t doing this he’d probably be a mechanic somewhere, fixing engines instead of airflow. But engines don’t cough at night. Engines don’t have grandkids sleeping in the next room.

He’s held the camera himself, thousands of times now, feeding it through galvanized steel and flex duct, watching the monitor as years of construction debris, pet hair, and settled pollen come into view. The work is repetitive. That’s the point. The 400th job gets the care of the first. Every time.

Meet Ray Castillo - The Person Behind Every Job

Ray Castillo is Owner & Founder of Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. He’s been hands-on in this trade since 1984, trained in the era when you learned by working next to someone who knew more than you, not by watching a video. His certifications include state-licensed credentials and manufacturer training on Honeywell and Aprilaire systems, though he’ll tell you the certificate on the wall matters less than what your own eyes see through the inspection camera.

What separates Ray from a franchise technician sent with a script is simple: he built this. He chose the equipment, wrote the protocols, and still reviews jobs that don’t meet his standard. Away from work, he’s a fisherman who wakes before dawn for striped bass and believes the best kind of waiting is the kind you choose. His personal commitment to every customer is direct: “If I wouldn’t let my mother pay for it, I won’t let you pay for it either.”

Our Promise to Homeowners

We operate by a code we call K.E.Y.S., and it’s not decoration.

Krafted right means trained journeymen, proper materials, no shortcuts. Ray still pulls aside any technician who tries to skip the post-clean camera check. We’ve sent crews back to redo jobs at our own expense when the after-photo didn’t match our standard.

Every time means the 400th job gets the care of the first. We track callbacks not to punish but to find the one thing we missed.

Your home first means we work in your house the way we’d work in our mother’s. Boot covers, drop cloths, vacuuming after ourselves. Not because it’s policy, because it’s decent.

Standing behind it means The Keystone Standard: 90 days, in writing, no arguing. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork battle, no transfer to a manager.

Honest pricing, quality parts, and a square deal. No surprises on the bill. We’ll be there when we say.

Our Credentials

Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. Here’s what that means in practical terms:

  • State-licensed - We meet the regulatory standards for air duct cleaning and dryer vent service in every state where we operate.
  • Insured & bonded - Protection for your property and peace of mind while we’re in your home.
  • 42+ years in business - Ray Castillo has been at this since 1984, through three decades of changing equipment, codes, and building styles.
  • Strong local reputation - Built one job at a time, one callback handled right, one homeowner who felt safe enough to recommend us to a neighbor.

These credentials matter because you’re letting strangers into your basement, your attic, your utility closet. Licensing means someone checked that we know what we’re doing. Insurance means if the unexpected happens, you’re not left holding the bag. And forty-two years means we’ve seen the ductwork in homes built in every decade from the 1920s forward, we know where the asbestos wrap hides, we know which 1970s flex duct crumbles if you look at it wrong. Experience isn’t a trophy. It’s a safety net.

Rooted in the Communities We Serve

Our home base is Los Angeles, where Ray Castillo founded the company, and from there we’ve built a network of local teams serving communities across the country. From Seymour to Wallingford, Guilford to Oxford, Cheshire to Stratford, Naugatuck to Trumbull, and Meriden, our locations hire local, train apprentices into journeymen, and answer the phone with a person. A company that plans to be in town in thirty years acts like it. We’re not passing through. We’re building something that lasts.

Call (844) 685-6342 and we’ll connect you with the local team nearest you. Our hours are Monday through Sunday, 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Free written estimates, upfront pricing, and we’ll be there when we say.
